Solid polymer of ethylene oxide, water-soluble and of high molecular weight, available in flakes. It is used as a binder and lubricant in tablets, as a solubilizer and base in solid systems, and as a component of waxes and powder formulations.

It is used as a raw material in pharmaceutical and veterinary preparations, particularly in formulations associated with the respiratory tract, and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other aromatic compounds.
