Magnesium aluminum silicate, a high-viscosity purified smectite clay that hydrates in water to form colloidal dispersions. It is used to suspend particles and stabilize emulsions in cosmetics and in liquid and semisolid pharmaceutical formulations, where it provides body and uniformity.
