Propyl ester of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, a fat-soluble antimicrobial preservative with activity against fungi and yeasts. It is often combined with methylparaben to broaden the spectrum of protection. It is used in creams, emulsions and pharmaceutical and veterinary preparations, within the limits of applicable regulations.
