Methyl ester of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid used as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative, with activity against fungi and yeasts. It is used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, veterinary, nutraceutical and cleaning formulations, and in some foods, within the limits of applicable regulations.
