Ester of sorbitan and stearic acid, a lipophilic nonionic emulsifier with low HLB. It is used to prepare water-in-oil emulsions and as a co-emulsifier together with polysorbates in dense creams, ointments and other cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food formulations, in accordance with applicable regulations.
